On June 23, 2025, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University hosted a foresight session focused on shaping a new international tourism product in the field of science tourism. The event was held within the accelerator program “International Tourism Products of Russia,” implemented by the Centre of Competence in Tourism and Hospitality with the support of the St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.
The session brought together representatives of tour operators, universities, research institutions, and the medical sector. Among the participants was AMILOT partner, the Almazov National Medical Research Centre. Expert review of the proposed concepts was provided, among others, by Elena Zolotukhina of the Almazov Centre and Sofia Mozokina, President of the Association of Medical and Health Tourism Participants.
The discussion focused on new approaches to promoting St. Petersburg as an international destination for science tourism. Participants analyzed current market trends and worked on tourism routes and educational programs aimed at visitors from the Middle East, the CIS countries, and Vietnam. The session resulted in the development of a concept passport for a unique tourism product designed for travelers interested in science, technology, and innovation.
For AMILOT, the participation of medical community representatives and the Association’s partners in such discussions is especially important. The integration of St. Petersburg’s scientific and medical potential into new international tourism products creates additional opportunities for the development of medical, science, and health tourism, while also helping promote Russia’s high-tech medical centres in the international market.
